Smoking, physical and psychological dependence
Smoking is a disease characterized by physical and psychological dependence nicotine for which no vaccine or one really effective in its control or cure. Dependence on nicotine is compared to dependencies such as heroin and cocaine, difficult to treat, therefore, require the smoker to commit itself seriously and with determination to stop smoking.
Because cigarette smoking is highly addictive?
* Cigarettes are made from tobacco, a plant originally from South America, being produced and sold throughout the world today. The main active ingredient found naturally in tobacco is nicotine. Powerful central nervous system stimulant, nicotine is classified as a drug. At high doses, is extremely poisonous and common use as an insecticide.
* People who smoke cigarettes, or even those who inhale (snuff) or chew tobacco, nicotine is absorbed through the nasal membranes, mouth and lungs where it will be distrubuída the whole body through the blood reaching the brain in seconds.
* Nicotine is addictive just by altering brain function. The brain requires increasing amounts of the drug, and this explains why people smoke compulsively.
* In fact, after seven seconds of a single carry in a cigarette, a smoker’s brain “calming” or has the sensation of pleasure supposed to get more and more nicotine. Thus does the vice.
Diseases caused by consumption of nicotine:
* Heart attack, high blood pressure, circulatory problems due to obstruction of veins and arteries, indicating that nicotine one of the major risk factors for heart disease and stroke;
* Nicotine may be a cause of peptic ulcer disease, affects hormones and central nervous system is related to disturbances of a sexual nature. In women there is a risk of developing fetuses with chronic problems or even fetal death, among many other issues related to women’s health.
* Various respiratory diseases, asthma, bronchitis, allergies in general, without saying that the risk of a smoker getting lung cancer is 20 times greater than someone who does not smoke.
